Bio:
Ms. Aminath Shazly, Undergraduate degree in Science teaching, specializing in Biology and Marine Biology from Maldives College of Higher Education, Maldives.
Masters in Environmental Management, specializing in Natural Resources Management from University of Queensland, Australia.
At present working as a lecturer at Maldives National University, Faculty of Engineering, Science and Technology for Bachelors of Environmental Management (BEM) program.
Areas of experience include, Marine Sciences, Environment systems, Environmental and conservation issues and Climate Change. Other faculty work includes supervision and
marking dissertation for both undergraduates and postgraduate students at Maldives National University.
At the Faculty of Engineering, Science and Technology, functioning as a Management committee member, Curriculum committee member, and overall course coordinator for
Bachelor of Environmental Management. Also functioning as an executive committee member of Maldives National University Staff club.
Contributed to research in the field of Environment and Climate Change by being the projector manager for GCRF South Asian Nitrogen Hub
project led by the UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology.
Research interests include Conservation and Climate Change related issues, with a focus on Mangroves and other marine ecosystems.
First research relating to valuation of Huraa Mangrove conducted with Fathimath Shadiya and Riyaz Jauhary through the UNDP-MFF small grants project.
A second research was also conducted with Fathimath Shadiya under MNU grant for Kulhudhuffushi mangrove, to do a baseline study.
Contributed to Huvadhoo Aid, an NGO, to write up a scoping study based on Climate Change and its impacts on women and their sexual rights.
A paper based on this study titled “vulnerability of women to Climate Change in the Maldives” was presented at a Conference in Bangladesh in December 2016,
under the theme “Envisioning Our Common Future”.
