Dr. Aishath Shaira

Bio:
Dr. Aishath Shaira, graduated from University of KwaZulu Natal, South Africa with a bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Science (hons) (Chemistry), a Master of Science (Chemistry) and a PhD in Chemistry. She also had a teaching advanced diploma in Chemistry and Mathematics from the Maldives College of Higher Education.
At present she is working as an assistant professor at the Maldives National University, Faculty of Science and Engineering and Technology (FEST). She has been teaching chemistry modules to Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Environmental Management Course and Bachelor of Engineering Students, including first, second- and third year level.
Apart from teaching, she is also coordinating the Bachelor of Science course, including chemistry, biology and physics. She had supervised eight undergraduate research students, who had successfully graduated. Furthermore, she is also a member of FEST curriculum committee and a member of The Maldives National University Library committee.
She had also worked as an executive coordinator of climate research at the Ministry of Environment and Energy of Maldives and as a member of board of directors of Male Water and Sewerage Company.
Research interests of Dr. Shaira includes, design, synthesis, and characterization of homometallic and heterometallic (supermolecular) transition metals and their spectroscopic properties, research on computational density functional Theory (DFT) studies, molecular simulation and coordination chemistry of transition metal complexes and understanding the kinetic and mechanistic substitution behavior of inorganic complexes. Furthermore, environmental chemistry, climate change, analytical Chemistry and water quality testing are also her areas of interest.
